100 Things To Do For The Christmas Season

It’s exactly 12 days till Christmas and many people are doing their best to make it a super end of the year. Since we still have a little less than two weeks left for the Christmas season, I decided to get together a ginormous list of things that you could do for Christmas. It’s quite big and I’m sure you’ll find something worth giving a try. Who knows, I might help you make this a Christmas to remember :)

  1. Attend a Christmas party (not your own!)
  2. Write up your wish list for Santa Claus!
  3. If it’s snowing, then no Christmas is complete without a good old-fashioned snowball fight! No snow readily available? Crumple up some heavier than normal pieces of paper and start chuckin’ em’ at each other!
  4. Thou shalt not underestimate the power of the snow blower: clean out those driveways!
  5. Feel like you’re getting tired of the cold, or maybe you’re not much of a snow person? Who said Christmas had to be done in the cold? Take a tropical vacation!
  6. Buy a Christmas tree and set it up ASAP. Not much money? You might prefer to cut down your own!
  7. Create a Christmas countdown (builds anticipation!). Even better, use an advent calendar (those ones with a chocolate candy behind each day). Especially awesome for little kids!
  8. Santa Claus should be enough incentive to clean out the chimney, right? Call the sweepers. Now is as good a time as ever!
  9. Write really long letters to your favorite people. It doesn’t matter if they live on the other side of the world or right next door: a hand written letter is a blessing these days!
  10. Ride a Christmas train, choo choo!
  11. Stop smoking… who wants to huddle in the cold for a cancer stick?
  12. Go snowboarding!
  13. Got some kids that can’t keep their hands off the tree? Maybe you have a wild pet or two that likes to leap for your precious ornaments and lights. You might want to look into how to hang your tree upside down from the ceiling.
  14. Go snowmobiling! Google up some tours so you don’t get lost in the woods.
  15. Get some blankies and cuddle up to the on the floor in front of a warm fire on a chilly Christmas eve or day with that special someone
  16. Start up a hot bath and leave the water running. Now go outside and get cold (make sure to have a jacket or winter coat on so you don’t get sick, but allow yourself to get cold!). Roll around in the snow, open the jacket a bit if you want… now go inside and get right in the bath! It’s an amazing sensation, truly.
  17. I believe now is the time to become famous and invent your own Winter Sport, don’t you?
  18. Don’t forget to be ninja and try to peek at your presents! Just don’t get caught (hence being a ninja).
  19. You should totally track Santa… who doesn’t want to track Santa? We know that NORAD likes to track Santa!
  20. Visit Santa Claus. Bring the kids and let them sit on his lap!
  21. Hand-craft the stockings for the entire family.
  22. Draw huge, insane, awesome, ridiculous, unnecessary pictures in gigantic fields of untouched snow!
  23. Adorn your Christmas tree with homemade ornaments.
  24. Go camping in the frosty tundra of winter. Whole different experience from Summer!
  25. Think warm, happy, loving thoughts about someone you really care about.
  26. Spend a lot of time with the person you love most. This can be your significant other, your mom, a brother or sister, your kids… anyone.
  27. Take several naps in a single day. It just feels right.
  28. Homemade caramel apples are like heaven.
  29. Buy a very warm hoodie to sleep in at night.
  30. Dress up a snowman.
  31. Use the holidays to learn about other holidays! It’s actually a fun thing to do and you might get a little cultural value out of it (there are a lot of holidays in this world).
  32. Call family and friends… just for the heck of it!
  33. Create a family video Christmas card and advertise it to the world.
  34. Buy lots of candy canes and have an emergency reserve at all times. You never know when you simply must have one.
  35. Your pets cannot escape the holiday magic. Dress up your family pet(s) in Christmas attire (I’m imagining a Santa Chihuahua… it’s quite humorous).
  36. Set aside a few dollars and buy something special for a special someone. Not very much money? Not even enough for something small? No problem! Dabble in some creativity and craft something special all on your own. They’ll appreciate the personal handiwork; it lets them know just how much you care.
  37. Create your own “12 days of Christmas” song. This can get really fun… and sometimes really derogatory!
  38. Go sledding. Something really fun to do is wait till all of the streets are completely frozen over, go out with some friends to a down-hill and sled right down the middle of the road. Couple the exhilaration of sledding with the “naughtiness” of where you’re doing it and you’ve got some fun times to come!
TIP: if you’re feeling really extreme this Christmas, build a jump made of snow at the bottom of the hill. It’ll be epic, I promise!
  39. Have kids? Buy them Christmas themed coloring books.
  40. Kiss someone under the mistletoe… if it’s someone you want to kiss but haven’t yet, this is a good excuse to do it now!
  41. Learn a Christmas song or two on an instrument (pianos are simply beautiful for something like this!)
  42. Hang lights everywhere.
  43. Do a big puzzle! This is much more fun with friends/family/both.
  44. Two words: hot spring.
  45. Make eggnog.
  46. Get some money. Go to the store. Buy one of those life-sized models of Santa Claus and his reindeer. Make sure it’s one that allows you to separately move each piece. Now here’s the best part: take it home, display it in plain sight and rearrange the order of the reindeer! Oh, I’m naughty, aren’t I?
  47. Smile a lot… it’s a surprisingly contagious thing to do.
  48. Go caroling, bring some friends, spread the cheer.
  49. Throw a Christmas party, invite tons of people, have a blast!
  50. Shovel snow from a friend’s driveway.
  51. Donate to a charity… every cent helps!
  52. Take romanticism to the next level: horse-drawn carriage rides through a beautifully lit downtown area with your sweetheart. Feeling extra seasonal? Replace the carriage with a sleigh and the hook some antlers up to your horses. Now you’re Kris Cringle Crackin!
  53. Set a trap for Santa!
  54. Maybe you have a big, tough pup that likes to run… sleigh ride anyone?
  55. Volunteer somewhere to help out your community. Whether you pick a homeless shelter for a week or two, or just a small church service, your community is grateful for the help!
  56. Listen to all of your favorite Christmas music. Even better, do this while setting up for Christmas. It’ll add a very pleasant bounce to your step.
  57. Create a neighborhood game where everyone has snow wars. Have rules and make it a joint effort so that tons of people get in on it. Before you know it your neighborhood will be a Winter Warzone.
  58. Create a snow/ice fort.
TIP: combine this with a Christmas party and direct guests to the snow fort with someone inside acting like a greeter with a guest list. Of course, this is just to look cool, but you can let anyone in that shows up anyways whether they are on the guest list or not!
  59. Watch one or some of the many amazing Christmas movies… this is much better when done with family, close friends or your significant other! Hit classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Story” are great movies for the holidays.
  60. Buy next year’s wrapping paper at 50% off!
  61. Make a snowman.
  62. Drink lots and lots of hot chocolate!
  63. Snow angels… nuff’ said.
  64. Get the family together (even ones that aren’t so tight anymore) and watch home movies from the past to revisit old memories. Who knows, maybe a broken family could be mended (or start the healing process) with this single activity?
  65. Wrap the dog up in some wrapping paper (cats work too, but they aren’t as exciting)
  66. Buy a very fluffy, warm rug.
  67. Cook a Christmas turkey, chicken or goose. Nothing beats a holiday home-cooked meal like this!
  68. Feel like having a super active get together? Here’s something fun to do: get as many people together as you can… friends, family, acquaintances… ask all of those to invite their respective contacts. If you really want to get extreme, find a way to advertise it! Now that you have your huge group of people (depending on the ground-range of your little “game”, you’ll probably want 20-30 people or more), formulate a large-scale pseudo hide-n-seek/tag game. You could spread the game throughout your entire town, limit the range to a one mile radius of a certain point, however you want. Be sure to pick more than one what I like to call “hunter”. Now have everyone charge off in all different directions and the hunters count to a certain number before setting out. If done right, this can create a day/night of solid fun!
  69. Play Christmas charades and act out famous Christmas characters such as Scrooge, Santa, Rudolph, The Grinch and other such characters. You could even act out the characters from your favorite new-age Christmas movies (like Surviving Christmas).
  70. Hack Santa’s computer and change the Naughty & Nice list to your liking.
  71. Enjoy some delicious fondue!
  72. Roast marshmallows over a fire… if you have a fireplace, that’s even better! Indoor smores, who woulda thought?
  73. Build a gingerbread house! Invite some friends and family to help out and create the biggest, tastiest and most awkward house you can!
  74. Start a bonfire together with some special people in your life.
  75. Tell ghost stories around a crackling fire with friends and family.
  76. Wrap presents for everyone.
  77. Turn the heat up to an optimal level, get under a blanket to cancel out the cold, turn off the TV, turn on a nice, bright light… and read a good book
  78. Build a fort inside your home out of pillows, blankets and your furniture. Trust me, it’ll excite you beyond belief when you feel like a little kid again.
  79. Buy Christmas colors to wear… and wear them! Stuff like sweaters and socks are cozy.
  80. Bake a Christmas cake! Ornament it with red and green sprinkles to make it especially festive.
  81. Call your local “heroes” (police, firemen, hospitals, etc.) and figure out when you (and) your family can visit. Bring some tasty treats, a home cooked meal of turkey or chicken, maybe buy an industrial sized box of candy canes just for the people that make your lives that much safer. Make them feel appreciated!
  82. Wear a very gaudy and just downright bad holiday sweater.
  83. Learn to knit. Now that you know how to knit, make some mittens and a beanie to keep warm. Good times!
  84. Invite the people closest to you over for a small get-together. It doesn’t even have to be a party or a big event, just enjoy the company!
  85. Go to the beach… I’m not kidding.
  86. Check out local malls and other well known local places (such as big parks and famous locations). You never know when the city or business owners are going to set up a fine spectacle of lights!
  87. Light a Christmas fire in your fireplace (if you have one).
  88. Buy slippers… funny ones… get the ones with faces on them if you can.
  89. Toss the dog some wrapping paper he can tear apart
  90. Go ice fishing.
  91. Go skiing.
  92. Attempt to play sports in the snow… I imagine golf would be very entertaining.
  93. Feel like you might have a hankerin’ to toss a snowball at someone later in the year? Save a ball or two in your freezer for later!
  94. Bake Christmas cookies! Shapes of Christmas trees and Santa are preferable. Mahalo has a very nice how-to on baking Christmas cookies, plus they have several other helpful videos further down the page.
  95. Be a Secret Santa for someone in need… you’ll be amazed at how much this can really bring a huge amount of joy to someone’s Christmas.
  96. Give yourself lots of well-deserved alone time. Read a book, watch a cheesy Christmas movie, bake up a storm… or just sleep!
  97. Go ice skating. But tread lightly on frozen bodies of water!
  98. Send Christmas cards to all of the most important people in your life. Family, close friends, your significant other, whoever you feel is worth a bit of extra time for the Holidays. You’d be surprised how much they’ll appreciate something as simple as this.
TIP: add a personal touch and make them yourself. Even if they aren’t as “pretty” as cards bought out of the store, people will simply love the personal touch!
  99. Think of more things to do for Christmas: it challenges your brain and you might find something that you really wanna do!
  100. Sit down and create huge, ridiculous lists like this one!
