Maximizing Usage of Your Overlays

Maximizing Usage of Table Overlays

Use of an overlay is a great way to add a pretty touch of elegance on top of your tablecloths. Placing the right overlay over the right table linen can induce a spark of beauty that would be impossible with just the tablecloth alone.

Our square overlays are available in two fabric types: satin and organza. Both fabrics are featured in the sizes of 60-inch and 72-inch. They look especially nice when added over a round tablecloth. You want to make sure that the points of the overlay do not hang lower than the tablecloth.

For a nice formal look on a 48” round table, choose a 108” round tablecloth and a 60” square overlay. Your overlay will drop 6” on the sides and 18” at the points.

For a nice formal look on a 60” round table, choose a 120” round tablecloth and a 72” square overlay. Your overlay will drop 6” on the sides and 21” at the points.

For a 72” table, your best option is either a runner or an 85” square overlay, however, we only carry the 85” square in polyester, so if you prefer satin or organza, you can go with the 72” square overlay. Keep in mind, though, this overlay will just touch the edges of the table with the points dropping about 15”. If you prefer more coverage, you can always go with a round 108” satin overlay, which will drop 18” all the way around the table.

In choosing the fabric for your overlay, keep in mind that the organza is a sheer, translucent fabric that your tablecloth will show through and give a softer look.  The satin is a solid, shiny fabric, which will give a bolder look.  Our overlays come in an array of beautiful colors, to add just the right contrast to your table.

Although not listed on our website as an overlay, the polyester tablecloths work great as overlays as well.  You can do a round on a round, or a square over a round.

Here are some guidelines for round over a round:

For a 48-inch round table, you would use a 108-inch tablecloth with a 70-inch round tablecloth as an overlay.

For a 60-inch round table, you would use a 120” round tablecloth with a 70-inch, 90-inch, or 108-inch round tablecloth as an overlay, depending on the desired coverage.

For a 72-inch round table, you would use a 132-inch tablecloth with the option of using a 90-inch, 108-inch , or 120-inch round tablecloth as an overlay, depending on the desired coverage.
