Restaurant Table Linens

If you ask just about any restaurant owner who uses tablecloths, you just cannot go wrong with polyester tablecloths. Why polyester instead of cotton?  Polyester tablecloths stand up better to repeated use, rarely shrink, rarely fade, and, for the most part, are wrinkle resistant.  Of course, not all polyester is created equal. The heavier the fabric weight, the better. Heavier fabric weight means better durability, better longevity, and  better wrinkle resistance. We offer 3 grades – 3 fabric weights: Economy,  Standard, and Cotton-feel.

  1.  Economy Polyester, as you can guess by the name is our most economical tablecloth. With a GSM (grams per square meter) fabric weight of 125-130, Economy Polyester tablecloths are very affordable-(in fact, you could not buy material and make it yourself for even close). These are best for occasional use, special events, banquets, parties, weddings, etc. Although not recommended for daily repeated use and laundering, if used as a base tablecloth paired with an overlay or topper of standard or cotton-feel grade, economy will do just fine.  Economy polyester is available in 3 colors: White, Black, and Ivory; in several sizes in round, square, and rectangular tablecloths.

  2. Standard Polyester tablecloths are our most common.  Also known as visa or poplin polyester, and with a GSM (grams per square meter) fabric weight of 180, standard polyester tablecloths are great for any use. They are durable enough to withstand repeated use and laundering, giving you the best “bang for your buck”! Available in 32 colors and multiple sizes in round, square, and rectangular, as well as several colors in fitted tablecloths and skirts, you will find the size and shape to fit your restaurant table. Matching 17 inch napkins or 20 inch napkins are sold by the dozen.

3. Cotton-feel Polyester are the premium, top-of-the line polyester tablecloths.  Made of spun polyester, these tablecloths have a GSM (grams per square meter) fabric weight of 215. Characterized by the same look and feel as cotton, but without the wrinkles, fading, and shrinking that cotton is known for, cotton-feel table linens are definitely worth the extra buck or two per table.  Customers who regularly purchase cotton-feel rave about them and will not settle for anything else. They love that cotton-feel tablecloths if laundered properly come out of the dryer virtually wrinkle free, looking beautiful on event and restaurant tables. Cotton-feel linens are available in 10 colors and multiple sizes in round, square, and rectangular tablecloths and napkins.

Our recommendation for restaurants & bars is either standard or cotton-feel polyester tablecloths as your base tablecloth and using a cotton-feel round or square tablecloth as an overlay. This way, if wine is spilled or a meatball jumps ship onto the table, a quick change-out of the overlay will save on laundering an entire tablecloth. Keeping at least 2-3 times as many overlays vs. tablecloths on hand is a good rule of thumb.  Although the crisp clean look of white is the most popular, black will better camouflage subtle spots adding life-span between laundering.

Speaking of laundering, all grades of polyester need the same careful attention. The biggest mistake made when it comes to polyester tablecloths, is drying them to death. Polyester dries very quickly. Over-drying polyester causes permanent tiny wrinkles that are virtually impossible to remove. The best rule of thumb is to set the dryer on low heat and not for more than 10-15 minutes. Pulling them out promptly and slipping them onto hangers will reduce the need for ironing.

If linens are sent out for laundering, ask how they handle polyester linens beforehand. Reputable services will know the proper way to handle all types of fabric. Keep in mind, it is safe to use bleach on all of our white polyester tablecloths, but less is better. Using too much can yellow them over time.
